What is the mission of the Warrenton Youth Soccer Club? The founders of WYSC created the league as a place where children of all ages and abilities could learn about sports while having fun. The emphasis is on learning, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Rick Derflinger has been a member of the area's soccer community for over 40 years. He is a former player at the College of William and Mary and grew up playing club soccer at Annandale Boys Club.
Rick began his coaching career in 1976 as a 15-year-old with the Washington Area Girls Soccer League. Over the course of his career, Rick has served as a travel coach, director of training and technical director for numerous premier soccer clubs to include Braddock Road, Herndon, Burke, NVSC and McLean. His teams won multiple state championships and consistently competed at the national level with many of his players moving on to college and professional teams. Additionally, he served as the trainer for Robinson and Woodson High Schools where he won 7 regional and 3 state championships.
Rick has also served as a club rep for WAGS and NCSL and as a VA ODP coach and evaluator for over 7 years.
He holds coaching licenses from the

David Smith has been coaching with WYSC since fall 2002. Dave has coached Recreational U6-Boys and Girls, U8 Boys and Girls, U10 Boys and Girls, U12 Boys and Girls, and U14 Boys. Having won 6 championships in divisional play.
Dave has also coached 3 WYSC Tournament all star teams, U10 Boys and both U12 boys and Girls each achieving runner up in championship games.
These days you'll find Dave kicking the turf on the travel side having coached U12 Boys, U13 Boys, U14 Boys, and U11 and U12 girls in ODSL
Spring 2013 Dave lead the Mustangs 01 Blue U11 Girls to a championship win in a stunning penalty kick finish in the Battle Field - Columbus Day Tournament.

Rob Marino, Game day coach, has been coaching with WYSC since 2008, for both boys and girls teams, recreational and travel.
Rob currently coaches a recreational U16 girls team as well as the travel Mustangs 00 girls' team. His teams have largely stayed together over many years and respond to his focus on player development, playing with respect for opponents, and playing to win. Rob holds an "E" certification from US Soccer.
Rob serves on the Travel Committee and helps implement the club's concussion baseline ImPACT testing program with his wife Dr. Diane Chalmeta.
David Henrickson has coached at the recreational and travel level for players from U6 to U12 with WYSC since 2011. He also currently coaches boys and girls middle school soccer at Highland School.
Dave earned his E license in 2010 and D license in 2011 from US Soccer. He also earned a National Youth License in 2012 from US Youth Soccer and the National Diploma in 2014 from National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Dave started playing youth soccer at age six and played at the recreational, travel and high school levels. In 2014 and 2015, his 2002 girls travel team earned the prestigious Randy Rawls Sportsmanship Award from the Old Dominion Soccer League (ODSL) two seasons in a row.
Chase Cox has coached locally at the recreational and all-star level for over 10 years. He has assisted with the coaching and training of several travel teams within the last few years, as well. Currently, he is the Assistant Coach for the WYSC Mustangs 04 Boys Team.
Chase grew up in Prince William County and began playing soccer at the age of 4. He played for numerous travel and recreational leagues, and also played for many All-Star teams. Chase was a four year starter for Brentsville District High School’s Varsity Soccer Team. Additionally, he has trained internationally and played for Select teams in Holland, Denmark, and Sweden.
Chase holds a current U.S. Soccer “E” license and is working towards completing his “D”.
Keeper Trainier Coach Brain Kotowicz has been coaching with WYSC for two years. He currently holds a USSF "F" License.
